KICX Country 106 Orillia Listen Online


KICX Country 106 aka CICX-FM is music station located in Orillia and owned by Larche Communications. The catchphrase of the station is “ Simcoe Country; you’re in KICX Country! ” The journey of CHPS was about to start in 1942. The general manager of the channel was appointed Gordon Smith. At that time, Parry Sound Broadcasting Co. was controlling CHPS, the set frequency was 1450 kHz, and wattage was 250 w given to the channel. The channel became on air for the first time on 8 August 1942. In 1943, Gordon went to join RCAF, but after one year he returned to get full shares of the channel, Alec Mitchell possessed the remaining assets. The station changed its location to Orillia in 1945 (during summers), and was started as CFOR by the mayor of the city. In December 1945, its studios were established, and in the same year, Dominion Network of CBC formed alliance as well. A request for changing the frequency of radio from 1450 KHz to 1570 KHz was approved, the changes were made in 1954 though, and also its wattage was incremented to 1000 watts ERP in 1950. In 1954, the location of studios was again switched to 241 West Street. An increment was made on 16 August 1957 by installing brand new transmitter of 10,000 watts; the Hurricane incident occurred in 1954 which destroyed the transmission site.
